An unusual Neauchatel quarter striking spring movement blanc roulant, Unsigned, 19th century The rectangular twin barrel movement with four cylindrical pillars pinned through the backplate and going train with unfinished escapement, the two-in-one quarter striking train with countwheel cut for the hours and quarters and visible strikework mounted on the backplate, the unfinished pull-quarter repeat mechanism also visible on the backplate, the plates 10cm (4ins) high. The current lot appears to be unfinished with the escape wheel formed as a blank and the quarter repeat mechanism only partially executed. Such movements were generally produced in relatively large semi-industrial workshops and often supplied to clockmakers as a blanc roulant for finishing; the present mechanism appears to be one of these which has survived unused as new old stock.
