Appomattox Court House brick, 7.75 x 4 x 2.75 in., with typed label attached on one side that reads "From McLean's house at Appomatox [sic], Va., in which General Robert E. Lee signed the terms of surrender. / Presented by Mr. and Mrs. O.V. Thiele, June, 1932. See page 488 'Personal Memoirs of U.S. Grant.'" Accompanied by photocopies of ca 1910-30s postcards, which show people / students collecting, posing and rummaging through what was left of the site. The copies include a few shots that show the brick structure and piles of bricks surrounding the site. Condition: Some chips, areas of minor loss to brick. Wear typical considering age. Some wear to typed label, including few small areas of loss along edges, few short tears.
