Battle Ground of Resacca, GA. No. 4.
New York: 1866]. Albumen photograph (image size: 255 x 360 mm). On the original two-tone gilt-edged thin card mount (overall: 404 x 500 mm) with plate title and photographer's credit. Condition : minor foxing mostly in the margins of the mount. A fine copy of a stunning image from Barnard's Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign, one of the greatest photographic monuments to the Civil War. The Battle of Resaca (13-15 May 1864), the second battle of the Atlanta campaign, pitted Sherman against Johnston’s Army of Tennessee. The present image, clearly showing the rocky terrain and the Confederate breastworks, offers a poignant reminder of the trail of destruction left across the Confederacy by Sherman's army.
