AUSTRALIAN TOUR, 1928-29 M.C.C. Australian Tour 1928-29. Complimentary Dinner given on board R.M.S. 'Ormonde' by Mr James Ferguson to commemorate the return of "The Ashes". Wednesday, 17th April 1929. 4-page booklet, 8°, photogravure of the S.S. Ormonde on front cover, title-page border in MCC colours, one-page list of team members (17 in total, plus the manager, F.C. Toone), one-page dinner menu, "Alleluia" hymn on the final page and verso of back cover (some light spotting). SIGNED ON THE FRONT COVER by all those listed except Chapman, Hobbs and S.J. Staples, signed twice by Larwood, also by James Ferguson L.V. James as ship's commandant, the purser, and S.J. Southerton of Reuter's. Provenance : Captain L.V. James (his gift to the vendor). The "Alleluia" hymn by the team thanks James Ferguson for the cuff-links given "For the 'Ashes' we won", and in 17 verses finds room to mention nearly everybody involved on the English side, including "dear Mr Toone He rakes up the money: When he goes up to Lords They'll say 'Well done, sonnie'. Greatest honour goes to: 'the star of the Tour/Wally Hammond of fame; He 'couples' on Tuesday/God bless the dear dame." TOGETHER WITH A SIGNED SPECIAL BOUNDARY CRICKET BALL, REPUTEDLY USED IN THE LAST MATCH OF THE SERIES. While faded and in most cases no longer visible to the naked eye, under ultra violet light it is possible to make out the signatures of Larwood, White, Geary, Hammond, Hendren, Hobbs, Sutcliffe, Mead, Duckworth and Ames.
