Beschreibung:

"Christmas St. Nicholas for Young Folks" an original advertising poster.
London & New York: Macmillan and Co. Ltd. [publishers, n.d. but December 1899]. A 3-colour poster, printed in red, green and black (visible image area: 19 1/8 x 14inches; 485 x 355mm.). Framed and glazed. a classic image of christmas from one of the great designers of the period . The design shows Santa in an unusual tartan great coat, flanked by a little boy and girl in archaic dress, standing in front of a pair of bedecked trees; the artist's name is printed "Brad' and "ley" on either side of Santa's ankles. The size of the poster suggests that it was perhaps used for book-shop Christmas window displays, although it is apparently a an enlarged version of an image that was used as a cover design for the periodical St. Nicholas for Young Folks.
