BYROM, John (1692-1763) -- Thomas RODD A Catalogue of the Library formed by the late John Byrom, Esq., M.A., F.R.S., formerly Fellow of Trinity College, Cambridge, preserved at Kersall Cell, Lancashire . [Kersall Cell: Printed by Compton & Ritchie, London]: "Printed for Private Circulation Only," 1848. 4 o (207 x 160 mm). Lithographed frontispiece view of Kersall Cell by W. Backshall (foxed). Contemporary calf (rebacked, some wear). Provenance : Sir Oswald Mosley (bookplate); A.N.L. Munby (bookplate); H.P. Kraus (bookplate). The library of John Byrom, poet, diarist, and inventor of a well-known system of stenography, "of which only a few copies are now printed for private circulation." Byrom was a kind of Boswell to William Law the mystic. The catalogue of his library, still preserved at that time in his house owned by his descendents, "contains a valuable list of contemporary and earlier mystical books, tracts and pamphlets."
