The beautifully executed emblem engravings and corresponding biblical quotations as well as quatrains originate from Bernardus Gerbrandi Furmerius' "De rerum usu et abusu" (1575) and show lively allegorical scenes against rich urban, architectural and other backgrounds. The text was translated into Dutch by D. V. Coornhert. - Slightly browned and little staining in places, book block detached at front joint, first quire coming loose. Contemporary limp vellum binding, a little dusty, slightly spotted, closing bands removed.
