CREEPY Nos. 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 * Lot of Ten Warren Magazines Publisher: Warren Date Published: 1966-1967 Description: Creepy #s 11-20, all of them at least VG (4.0), some as good as Fine- (5.5). Covers by Frank Frazetta (5 covers), Gray Morrow, Vic Prezio, Albert Neutzell. Art by John Severin, Reed Crandall, Joe Orlando, Dan Adkins, Manny Stallman, Steve Ditko Angelo Torres, Rocco Mastroserio, Jerry Grandenetti, Gene Colan, Neal Adams Gil Kane Jeff Jones, Frank Frazetta Roger Brand, Roy Krenkel, Johnny Craig Al Williamson, others. "When I was first editing Creepy and Eerie, it dawned on me somewhere along the line, that we could probably never duplicate EC's successful approach to horror comics. They were excellent; but in a way they belong to the '50s. With a few exceptions, their approach was almost one of black humor; the stories were inevitably sick jokes, often quite clever ones. I thought... that a broader approach is needed. If the books should be like anything, it's probably the old Weird Tales. EC could have four stories of more of less the same type, but with seven per issue, we should have more diversity. Weird Tales would have horror by Lovecraft, sword & sorcery by Howard, and occasional science-fiction by Long. [I thought] Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella should have pretty much the same combination." — Archie Godwin, "The Horror Consultant," The Warren Companion. TwoMorrows: 2001, p. 95. Enjoying the Sale?
