Contemporary vellum, red leather spine label. Provenance : unidentified armorial bookplate. These metrical versions by G.P. Riva, P.B. Balbi, G.P. Zanotti and others are based on the comic novel of Giulio Cesare Croce. His story of a crafty peasant and his simpleton son Bertoldino, was so popular than a Bolognese abbot, Adriano Banchieri (1565-1634), created a son for Bertoldino, Cacasenno.
