CGC certified: F/VF (7.0). Cream to off-white pages. Cover: Jack Kirby and Bill Everett. Script: Stan Lee. Art: Bill Everett (with assists by Steve Ditko and Sol Brodsky). Origin and 1st appearance: Daredevil. Spider-Man & Fantastic Four cover appearances. GPAnalysis: A 7.0 sold for $12,000 in October 2021. Daredevil's debut marks the last great character launch of Marvel's foundational creative explosion (1961-1964), and one of the most significant character introductions of the Silver Age. Bill Everett's artwork, with Kirby input and Ditko assistance, is intriguingly out-of-step with the other Marvel mags of the day, harkening to the gloomy atmospherics of Everett's Atlas-era horror and crime stories. Even the cut-and-paste cover design invokes the try-anything, beat-the-deadline aesthetics of the pre-Code years. Several key elements of the character's mythos are introduced here (grim urban setting, Noir-ish visuals, emphasis on street-level crimefighting), only to be largely forgotten until Frank Miller revitalized the book starting with issue #158. A deluxe limited edition of 12 hardcover catalogues is available, in addition to a small number of softcovers. 400 lots, fully illustrated. Fun reference, great keepsake. Softcover $40, deluxe hardcover with dust jacket and limitation plate $200. Eight of the 12 hardcovers are pre-ordered and the rest will go quickly, so reserve yours now.
