Duranti's Rationale divinorum officiorum Georg Husner, c.1479 DURANTI, Guillelmus (1237-1296). Rationale divinorum officiorum. [Strasbourg: Georg Husner, c.1479.] Georg Husner edition, in a contemporary binding. The fundamental authority for the history of Western liturgy, originally published in 1459 and frequently reprinted, this work describes the sources, forms, and symbolism of Christian ritual. ISTC records only three other copies of this edition in the United States. H 6466*; BSB-Ink D-339; GW 9117; Goff D-420; ISTC id00420000. Chancery folio (305 x 207mm). 388 leaves. Large and small red pearled initials, red paragraph marks and capital strokes (some dampstaining and toning; worming affecting text). Contemporary blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards, brass catchplates, title in ink on fore-edge, reused manuscript quire guards (upper joint repaired, with portions of the spine and other surfaces renewed, bosses renewed, straps renewed, wormed). Provenance: marginalia – Wimpfen, Dominicans (inscription) – Comte Chandon de Briailles (either Raoul, 1850-1908, or his two sons François and Henri, founders of the eponymous champagne house; bookplate) – acquired from Bernard M. Rosenthal, Inc, New York, 15 December 1960.
