COSIMO III DE'MEDICI (1642-1723), Grand Duke of Tuscany, died on 31 October 1723, and on 16 May 1724, funeral services were held in his honor at the Basilica Ambrosiana of San Lorenzo in Florence. Del Riccio provides a detailed description of the funerary events and decorations, and the folding plate illustrates the Duke's ornate catafalque, which was designed by the Italian architect Alexander Galilei. Bound with Del Riccio's account is the text of the funeral oration delivered by Andrea Alamanni
