Fragment of a Gradual, in Latin, decorated manuscript on parchment [France, late thirteenth century] 11 leaves (usually not with continuous text), with 7 lines of early gothic bookhand, capitals touched in red, red rubrics and contemporary foliation on verso ( “XXXI”, “XIII”, “CXX”, “CLXXXXIX”, “CCLV”, “CCIIII”, “CXXIX”, “XVI” and “XXXVIII”, with two leaves without foliation), initials in red or blue with scalloping penwork, five very large initials in same leaving lines in blank parchment or variegated in red and blue filled with delicate foliate penwork, some spots and stains to edges of a few leaves, a few leaves with small tears at base, overall in good condition with wide and clean margins, 400 by 255 mm., in nineteenth-century binding of green marbled paper boards with parchment spine (perhaps recently restored)
