Full dark green morocco gilt by F.[rancis] Bedford, covers framed with three gilt fillets, spine in six compartments richly gilt, all edges gilt, marbled endpapers. 6 3/4 x 4 1/4 inches (17 x 11 cm); [8], 398, [2], 79, [1] pp. (including frontispiece and errata), collating [A]^(4) B-Cc^(8) Aa-Ee^(8). Minor restorations to frontispiece (engraved by William Marshall and title (both of which may be inserted from another copy), overall a clean, wide-margined example, splendidly bound, the Cortlandt F. Bishop copy with his booklabel. A tall copy of this great work of English poetry. Herrick, who was the son of a goldsmith, studied at Cambridge. He was part of the circle of Ben Jonson, whose death he laments in at least two poems. He contributed one verse, anonymously, to the 1640 edition of Shakespeare's Poems.
