HUXLEY, Aldous Leonard (1894-1963). Typescript of 'Point Counterpoint', including numerous small autograph corrections, used for the American edition and annotated by the publisher for the printer ('OK to set Craig'), 734 pages, 4to ; green morocco-backed cloth case. Provenance : purchased from Scribners, New York, 6 November 1945, $106. HUXLEY, Aldous. Point Counter Point . London: Chatto and Windus, 1928. 8° (205 x 129mm). Original orange cloth, dust-jacket, morocco-backed slipcase. FIRST EDITION. Point Counterpoint has been described as 'almost a novel without a story' about the artistic and literary life of London in the twenties (L. Brander. Aldous Huxley: A Critical Study , 1969), and compared with Vanity Fair . Written through characters and conversation rather than as a narrative, in the latter part increasingly exaggerated episodes move towards a melodramatic crime story. Everything in it is subordinated to the principle of irony, and Huxley reaches in the novel the height of his formal achievement (P. Bowering. Aldous Huxley. A study of the major novels , 1968). (2)
