Engraved title with uncoloured vignette, uncoloured engraved outline plate with letterpress description on verso, two hand-coloured aquatint portraits of Nelson and St. Vincent, 55 hand-coloured engraved aquatints by T. Sutherland, J. Jeakes and Bailey after T. Whitcombe. Contemporary brown calf, gilt, covers with quadruple fillet borders, spine in five compartments with raised bands, lettered in the second, the others with repeat decoration of overall massed small arabesque tools, marbled edges (neatly rebacked, old spine laid down, some light scuffing to extremities). Provenance : Robert Lionel Foster (bookplate, inscription). A fine copy of an early issue, with the plates in excellent condition, and including the two additional portraits of Nelson and St.Vincent and the list of subscribers. Cf. Abbey Life 337; Tooley 282.
