Contemporary speckled calf, covers with gilt fillet at outer edge, spine in six compartments with raised bands, the bands flanked by gilt fillets, red morocco lettering-piece in the second compartment. A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST LONDON EDITION of Forster's Geschichte der Entdeckungen und Schiffahrten im Norden published in Frankfurt in 1784. Two English-language editions were published in 1776: the present example and another in Dublin.
