Beschreibung:

KPM Painted Porcelain Plaque Entitled Fiddler and a Gypsy Woman (Consolation) After Louis Gallait Signed F. Schmidt. Height of plaque 26 1/2 inches, width 20 inches. See Sean Shakrovski and Vera Rininberg, KPM Plaques: Gaining an Insight into the Art of Painting on Porcelain , p. 117, fig 38, for an illustration of a similar plaque. The original oil on canvas painting by Gallait is in the collection of the National Museum in Warsaw. C
Plaque: appears to be in generally good undamaged condition; the plaque is visible from behind and is impressed KPM with the scepter mark; no apparent breaks, cracks, chips to the porcelain plaque; the front painted side was partially coated with a thin white-colored dried film that seemed to silhouette and obscure most of the male figure's garments, leg, and other areas such as the violin; this film mostly cleaned away when distilled water and soft cotton pads were wiped over the area (see photos), however, some of it did not clean away, notably, at the right side where the large boulder is located; this may or may not clean away with careful cleaning treatment; the actual cause of this "cloudiness" is not known; (it may simply be dried Lemon Pledge); not black lighted frame measurement: height 35 3/4 in., width 30 in.
