Seti. Pervaya kniga stikhov [Nets.First Book of Poems].
Moscow: Skorpion, 1908. 224 pp., 8vo (203 x 145 mm). Rebound in contemporary cloth with the original decorated pale blue wrappers designed by Nikolai Feofilaktov bound in. Condition: minor wear. Provenance: signature of the artist Dmitri Mitrokhin in pencil on front free leaf; postcard of Konstantin Somov’s portrait of Kuzmin inscribed by the poet and affixed to verso of this free leaf. first collection of poetry by the russian gay icon. In 1904, M. Kuzmin was welcomed into the sexually open Mir Iskusstva [World of Art] group founded by Sergei Diaghilev. One of the group’s leaders, K. Somov, not only painted his portrait but became his lover. N. Feodilaktov, who provided the Beardleyesque wrapper design for Seti, also was a member. Many of the poems in Seti originally appeared in the literary journal Vesy [Scales] (1904-1905). The book includes the first book publication of Kuzmin’s most famous cycle of erotic poetry, Aleksandriiskiya pesni [Alexandrian Songs]. D. Mitrokhin too belonged to Mir IIkusstva and Kuzmin later co-authored a monograph on this artist.
