Modern green morocco (spine faded to brown). Provenance : "Bibliotheca Colbertina" (faint inscription on upper title margin). VERY RARE FIRST EDITION showing the various techniques of bloodletting as it was practiced in Seventeenth-century Italy. A historical section at the beginning, illustrated with charming engraved portraits, depicts famous barber-surgeons throughout history including: Irades, Cleopatra's barber; Oliver Ledaim, barber to King Louis XI of France; and Domenico Burchiello, the celebrated barber-poet of Florence.
