Mining.- Hungary & Transylvania.- Born (Baron Inigo) Travels through the Bannat of Temeswar, Transylvania, and Hungary, in the year 1770. Described in a series of letters to Prof. Ferber, on the mines and mountains of these different countries, translated by R.E Raspe, first edition in English, 2 folding engraved plans, lacking final advertisement f., offsetting, occasional spotting or finger-marking, engraved armorial bookplate of Archibald, Earl of Eglingtoune to front pastedown, contemporary calf, gilt spine in compartments, joints splitting, but holding firm, spine ends and corners worn, rubbed, [Goldsmiths' 11549; cf. Hoover 154], 8vo, printed by J. Miller No. 6, Old Bailey; for G. Kearsley, 1777. ⁂ Rare in commerce. Born was curator of the Imperial Mineralogical Collections in Vienna. He introduced the amalgamation process for the extraction of gold and silver to Austria.
