The second volume in Pallas' serial work, which eventually numbered seven volumes, published between 1781 and 1796. The volumes contain mostly articles edited by Pallas, occasional contributions by others, and translations from the Russian. Of the two untitled maps in the present volume, one shows shows the west coast of America from 20º to 60º NL to illustrate Maurelle's voyage of 1775. The other shows part of the North Pacific from 50º to 61½ º NL and 20º to 65º east of Ochotsk to illustrate the article on Zaikov's voyage. The Aleutians and Fox islands, part of Siberia and Alaska are shown. Routes of several voyages are indicated by dotted lines. Several anchorages of Captain Cook are located. The map makes use of information obtained from the Cook expedition. This volume is rare. Provenance: PBA, 6/12/97 References: L-M 31. Masterson and Brower, Berings Successors. The substance of the book is the translation of 9 articles from various volumes of this work by Pallas. The article on Zaikov's voyage in this volume is translated.
