Roosevelt"), depicting FDR in outdoor garb including sunglasses and a hat, holding the spokes of the wheel on the deck of his sailing yacht the Amber Jack II , with his sons John, Franklin Jr. and James at his side, early 1930s. 13¼ x 16 in., matted in original wooden frame, inscription slightly faded . THE "FIRST MATE" TO THE "CAPTAIN", AFTER FDR'S RECOVERY FROM POLIO A large photograph of three Roosevelt sons and an unidentified sailor on the occasion of the first sailing of the yacht Amber Jack II following FDR's recovery from the polio which left him unable to walk without braces the rest of his adult life. INSCRIBED BY FDR TO ER in black ink along lower margin: "For Captain Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, Captain, from Franklin D. Roosevelt, First Mate."
