2 picture postcards, one each to the widow (Nina Borisovna) and daughter (Nina Vasilievna) of Vasili Shirinskii, Soviet composer, violinist and conductor. Each 105 x 150mm. One is a New Year's card for January 1, 1969; the other is a simple thank you card of November 14, 1966. Apparently they were all living at the same apartment building in Moscow. Shirinskii belonged the the Moscow Quartet from its founding in 1923 until his death in 1965. They began collaborating with Shostakovich in 1938 and premiered thirteen of his fifteen string quartets.
