Harrisonburg, [VA]: 9 April 1862. 1 p. (152 x 190 mm). Condition: light vertical creases, else fine. signed only two months before he was killed in battle, asbhy requisitions cavalry equipment. Ashby here orders "Twenty curry combs Eight Rope Holsters One Horse Brush Two Axes…" The distinguished commander of Stonewall Jackson's cavalry during the Valley campaign, Ashby was promoted to brigadier general on 23 May 1862. He would be killed during a skirmish not far from Harrisonburg on 6 June 1862. A rare Confederate signature.
