WRIGHT, WILBUR. Typed letter signed to Hart O. Berg in Paris, Dayton Ohio, 5 July 1910. One page, 4to, on imprinted stationery of "The Wright Company, Wilbur Wright, President," recipient's record of receipt added in blank portion. NEW FLIGHT RECORDS AND FAILED PATENT SUITS A good letter, full of news of the burgeoning aviation scene. To their European agent, Wilbur writes: "...You may forward us by express, the medals and the originals of the patents which have been accumulating in your safe. Have the stock certificates in French and German companies been delivered? If so, please forward them also. "You will have seen by the newspapers that the injunctions against [Glenn] Curtiss and [Louis] Paulhan were dissolved. I think our mistake was in permitting new matter to be brought in after the lower court's decision without having the lower court act upon it. However, it is too late to correct the blunder now. You have, doubtless, also noticed that Mr. Brookins has established at Indianapolis, a new record for height of 4939 feet and what is much more remarkable a record for a complete turn of 6 2/5 seconds. This latter was the most hair-lifting performance I ever saw, and I think the record will stand a long time. the turn was made so quickly, that its centrifugal force was nearly double that of gravity and the total strain on the machine about 2-1/2 times normal...." Hart O. Berg was the representative of the Wright's agents, Flint and Company, in England, France and Russia. Wilbur Wright had made a triumphant visit to France in l908 and demonstrated the Flyer before astonished crowds at Le Mans. On October 7, l908, Mrs. Hart O. Berg flew with him in the Flyer, becoming the first woman to make a powered flight. The Wrights had served Glenn Curtiss and the French aviator Louis Paulhan with injunctions in January l9l0, asserting that both men's aircraft violated the Wright's l906 patent. On appeal in June l9l0 both injunctions were voided, to the Wright's disappointment. Letters of Wilbur Wright, who died in 1912 of typhoid fever, are extremely rare.
