WYLD, James, London, 1838/1844 A fine pair of 30.5 cm. diameter table globes, the terrestrial WYLD'S Globe of the Earth WITH THE LATEST DISCOVERIES. London. Published by JAMES WYLD Charing Cross East. 1838 , made up of two sets of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the equatorial graduated in degrees, hours and minutes, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the oceans with an analemma and the tracks of Cook and Gore, the Antarctic showing Grahams Land , Peters L. and Alexander I. , the continents in yellow and green and showing rivers, mountains, towns, cities and the Great Wall of China ( some neatly repaired cracks to Indian Ocean and the poles, some minor splitting of gores, no loss of detail ); the celestial WYLD'S Globe of the Heavens CONTAINING THE FIXED STARS TO THE SIXTH MAGNITUDE INCLUSIVE. Calculated to the Year 1844 Collated from F. Baily's edition of Flamsteed, Piazzi, La Caille, Hevelius, Mayer, Bradley &c. London. Pub d by James Wyld, Charing Cross East 1844 , made up of two sets of twelve yellow and blue gores laid to the celestial poles, the equatorial graduated in degrees and hours, the equinoctial, solstitial and ecliptic colures graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the month and of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the constellations depicted by mythical beasts and figures and scientific instruments with stars to seven orders of magnitude Magnitudes according to Piazzi , and labelled with Greek and Roman letters and numbers, underlined according to whether they appear in the catalogues of Flamsteed, Piazzi, La Caille or Hevelius, with a note reading The Hieroglyphical figures exhibit Ptolomey's Constellations reduced from Bayer's Atlas. Greek and Print letters show Bayer's arrangement of the Stars. Double Stars from Sir W. m Herschel, Phil: Trans: 1782, 1785, & Struves Dorput Cat: 1807 ( areas of discolouration, neatly repaired cracks, some splitting of gores, no loss of detail ); both spheres with engraved brass hour dial and meridian circle, the mahogany horizon with engraved paper ring with degrees of amplitude and azimuth, compass directions, days of the month and days of the houses of the Zodiac ( both with some discolouration, and neat repairs ) on four baluster-turned legs united by cross stretchers -- 45.7 cm. high (2)
