Additional engraved title and hand-coloured frontispiece; printed on 'papier bleuté'. (Minor soiling on additional title.) Contemporary Russian half calf over marbled boards, flat spine ruled in gilt, black morocco label lettered in gilt (extremities rubbed). Provenance : an early bookplate removed -- Paul M. Fekula. Second (first illustrated) edition; an excellent copy in contemporary binding. The text quotes official documents and details the war of 1812, which the author describes as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for the literary and political arts.
