The Austrian firm of MT, founded and run by Count Mathias Thun, operated for about a dozen years, having begun in 1925. As the country’s official importer for Levis motorcycles, Albion m/c transmissions, and Villiers motors, Thun was clearly a keen Anglophile, for he also fitted his motorcycles with JAP and Blackburne engines (it is when we reflect in such detail that we recall how widely Britain’s proprietary engines were sold in so many markets…). The 175cc flywheel-ignition MT-Villiers was originally the property of Dr. Helmut Krackowizer, although in 1970 it became one of the Museum’s earliest purchases. With a black and gold coach-lines finish the neatly proportioned 'stroker' has a distinctly Anglo Saxon appearance, its Austrian origins are not visibly apparent. Unusually, the gearbox is positioned to the rear of the saddle tube. Offered without documentation.
