Mit 19 blattgroßen goldgehöhten Miniaturen in breiten Bordüren teils auf Goldockergrund, mit Rankwerk aus Akanthusblättern, Blumen und vereinzelt Früchten, gelegentlich auch Tieren und Fabelwesen, alles in Gold, Farben u. Deckweiß. Desweiteren 9 kleinere Miniaturen mit symbolischen u. emblematischen Darstellungen u. 2 Mustergründe als Textauffüller, 24 kleine Miniaturen innerhalb der Bordüren des Kalendars mit szenischen Monatsbildern u. Sternbildmotiven. Dazu 19 3-4zeilige Zierinitialen und zahlreiche 1-2zeilige Goldinitialen mit Rankwerk auf blauem oder rotem Grund, außerdem rote oder blaue Zeilenfüller mit Rankwerk in Weiß oder Gold. Text u. Kalendar mit breiten zweiseitigen Bordüren mit Rankwerk, Blüten und Früchten. 132 (statt 133) Bll. Roter Samtband d. späten 19. Jh. über Holzdeckeln (berieben), in mod. roter Lederkassette mit goldgepr. Rückentitel.
Splendid illuminated book of hours of the early 16th century for the use of Rome. Paris, c. 1500. With 19 full-page miniatures with beautiful framework of acanthus leaves, flowers and scattered fruits, occasionally decorated with animals and mythical creatures, all in gold and colours. In addition 24 smaller miniatures within the decorative framework of the calendar, depicting seasonal activities and symbols of the zodiac. 9 smaller miniatures with symbolic and emblematic illustrations and 2 geometric pattern fields are filling the text pages. Numerous decorative initials. The illustrations on fol. 105r, 114r and 122r, which differ somewhat in style from the others, were probably made by a second illuminator.- Provenance: From the library of Eugénie Marie van Tieghem with her fullpage coloured armorial bookplate mounted on front pastedown. - Bound in 19th century red velvet over wooden boards (rubbed), housed in recent red leather clamshell-box, gilt title to spine. Probably partly reversed order of the quires due to the 19th century binding. Front paste-down and fly-leaf loose, stitching loose in places, small tears to inner gutter of fol. 33 without touching image or text, scattered marginal staining, some rubbing to image of fol. 33r. Very well preserved overall. Lacking the leaf following fol. 102
